This week’s #teasertuesday is from Shades of Sepia, book 1 of The Sleepless City.
“I think I might have just outed myself,” Simon said dryly. “She’s in one of my classes at the university and flirts with me constantly when I come here. I suspect she’s just realized she was wasting her time.”
“You could be bi,” Lucas pointed out helpfully.
“I’m not,” Simon said, “and besides, I’m already taken…” His voice trailed off.
Already taken? Ben swallowed. Simon couldn’t be serious, could he? What the hell was he playing at, kissing him like that if he was with someone else?
Lucas elbowed Ben in the side, none too gently. “Earth to Ben. You still there? Simon, I think you’d better tell him again, and ask nicely this time so he understands what you’re saying.”
“Simon?” Ben managed to croak. Ask him what? “What’s he talking about?”
“I… um…” Simon cleared his throat. “I’m not interested in her, Ben, or anyone else. I’m interested in you. That’s what I meant when I said I was already taken. By you. Is that all right?”
“So is that a yes?” Lucas glanced between them. “Put me out of my misery, here.”
“That’s a yes,” Ben said. At least for now, while they figured out whether this relationship had the potential to be something more long-term. “Oh, and, Lucas?”
“Could I talk to Simon please? Alone.”
“Oh, right. Sure.” Lucas stood. “I should probably get back to work anyway. Dead bodies await and all that. Thanks for your help, Simon. See you when I get home, and…” He leaned over and whispered something in Simon’s ear.
“No,” said Simon firmly. “I don’t think so. Definitely not.”
