This week’s #teasertuesday is from my New Zealand set time travel romance Slow Dreaming.
“Bullshit.” Sean tried to keep his voice even, and failed. He’d trusted Jason, and shared his hopes and dreams with him. He’d thought they had a connection. Damn it! He’d hoped they might have a future together. “You’ve got my photo in your wallet, and it’s been there a while. You’ve been sitting in this café watching me for at least a couple of days before you had the nerve to introduce yourself.” Sean fought the temptation to go through the rest of Jason’s wallet and gave it back to him. Jason might be fine with invading a stranger’s privacy but he wasn’t. “I think you’d better leave, don’t you?”
“I can explain,” Jason said quietly.
“Give me one good reason why I should let you.” Sean pushed back his chair.
“I can explain,” Jason said again. “Please…. You… I… we haven’t got long, and I can’t let everything play out the way it’s meant to.” His voice cracked. “I can’t. Not now.”
Ten minutes ago Sean would have done anything he could to comfort Jason, but not now. “You betrayed me. Betrayed what I thought we had. You’ll have to do better than that.” Sean hated the words as soon as he’d spoken. Jason was obviously hurting. He regretted what he’d done. Hope slivered through him, yet he forced himself to ignore it. What if Jason’s reaction was because he’d been caught? “We’re not open yet. I think you’d better leave.”
