This week’s #teasertuesday is from Shadowboxing, book 1 of my WWII Echoes Rising series.
Michel placed a hand on Kristopher’s shoulder, signalling they needed to move out. “Kristopher…,” he whispered, trying to instill the gravity of the situation into that one word.
“I can’t,” Kristopher hissed. “Elise is in there, and I heard a gunshot. If she’s in trouble, it’s because of me. I won’t be responsible for any more death or suffering.” His voice shook. He pushed Michel’s hand away.
“You can’t blame yourself. Elise knew the risks. She wouldn’t want you to place yourself in danger. We are leaving. Now.”
“You may leave if you wish, but I’m not leaving Elise in there with Holm.” Kristopher’s voice was low but cold.
Michel admired Kristopher’s courage yet wondered how he could be so naïve. Did he truly think giving himself up would help Elise in any way? “We don’t know she is still alive. We are leaving. Now!”
