Book Review – Betting On His BF by Eli Easton & Tara Lain

Nerds vs Jocks #4
Publisher: Easton Lain Publishing
Pages: 288
Characters: PJ/Felix
POV: 1st
Genre: Contemporary, Series

Big Bet. Big Trouble. Big Love.

When Felix the Quiz Bowl Champion reveals other oversized assets besides his brain, it takes PJ, the super-wheeler-dealer, to wangle maximum profits from it—in bets, wet jock strap contests, and Wang of the Week.

But winning money turns out to be second to falling in lust, and sexual escapades replace time at the poker tables as the number-one activity of their wicked week in Vegas.

Still, accepting the hospitality of PJ’s father’s client, the mobster Joey Oretano, proves a nearly fatal money-saving scheme, and brings Felix and PJ face-to-face with the serious side of life.

Very. Serious.

Will someone take the chance to be a hero?

Or will someone wind up dead?

BETTING ON HIS BF is a friends-to-lovers, bisexual awakening, what-happens-in-Vegas-can-win-you-money, dash-of-suspense, MM romance—with large assets.

I’ve enjoyed this series, and PJ and Felix’s opposites attract/friends to lovers story rounds it out nicely. As with others in the series, there’s a focus on family, but in a completely different way. I loved how the story starts as a road trip to have fun in Vegas then morphs into suspense, but with a few crazy twists and turns.

PJ is a little nuts with his wheeling and dealing, but he has a huge heart, while Felix is more cautious and a really good guy. I felt for PJ when he realises the truth about his parents, and in particularly his father, and reality comes crashing down. I thought the authors did a great job in showing how PJ, although being a bright guy, has accepted his reality without questioning it. I loved how Felix saves the day, and his perspective of PJ’s family.

The plot is a fun read until it takes a serious turn, and even then it doesn’t lose its edge of craziness. The supporting cast along the way are great, especially Dusty Rose.

I loved the epilogue and catching up with the other couples in the series a few years later. Very sweet end satisfying ending.

4.5 out of 5 stars.

About Anne Barwell

Anne Barwell lives in Wellington, New Zealand. She shares her home with a cat with “tortitude” who is convinced that the house is run to suit her; this is an ongoing “discussion,” and to date, it appears as though Kaylee may be winning. In 2008, Anne completed her conjoint BA in English Literature and Music/Bachelor of Teaching. She has worked as a music teacher, a primary school teacher, and now works in a library. She is a member of the Upper Hutt Science Fiction Club and plays violin for Hutt Valley Orchestra. She is an avid reader across a wide range of genres and a watcher of far too many TV series and movies, although it can be argued that there is no such thing as “too many.” These, of course, are best enjoyed with a decent cup of tea and further the continuing argument that the concept of “spare time” is really just a myth. She also hosts and reviews for other authors, and writes monthly blog posts for Love Bytes. She is the co-founder of the New Zealand Rainbow Romance writers, and a member of RWNZ. Anne’s books have received honorable mentions five times, reached the finals four times—one of which was for best gay book—and been a runner up in the Rainbow Awards. She has also been nominated twice in the Goodreads M/M Romance Reader’s Choice Awards—once for Best Fantasy and once for Best Historical. Anne can be found at
