A big welcome to Elle Keaton as part of her tour with Gay Romance Reviews for Real Trouble.
As a huge fan of this author already, and having met these characters in previous books, I’ve been hanging out for this new book and series. It didn’t disappoint, and I’m already hanging out for the next book in the series. I loved Soren and Dany, and an added bonus was the appearance of other characters from her Veiled Intentions series.
The beginning is very atmospheric and sets the scene immediately. Both the characters and setting are described in such detail that they feel very emotionally driven. Everything has a vibe of authenticity to it, and leaves me with a sense of a place I’d love to visit.
I felt for Dany trying to outrun the reach and reputation of his family, and how it tied back into Matt and Nial’s series. I loved him and Soren together. Their connection feels very real, and I liked how although Soren kept telling himself it couldn’t happen he couldn’t deny his emotions and need. His pain of what happened between them last time was understandable, as did Dany’s reason for leaving. Despite Dany’s background he’s a good guy, as is Soren.
The supporting cast are fabulous. I’m hoping Cody gets his own HEA at some point. I like him, and he’s been through a lot already. Hoping to see Dutch again too. I liked him and Hazel. I loved the found family theme in this story, and also the small town—in this case island—feel of Piedras with its close knit community. I liked Winston and Kim together too, and their friendship with Soren and Dany. Birdy always rocks, and I wouldn’t want to cross Claribel.
The mystery part of the story kept me guessing, and I loved the curveball re the diner. I loved how all the pieces came together. The action racks up to the point where I was seriously worried for Dany, and had to keep reading to make sure he and Soren got their HEA.
5 out of 5 stars.

Real Trouble By Elle Keaton
West Coast Forensics, Book 1
Two men on opposite sides of the law: will they be able to set aside their differences and trust love?
Danylo Peters has issues, lots of them. He’s not on Piedras Island by accident, he’s not a nice guy, and Peters isn’t his real name. Dany’s hiding, trying to escape his family’s influence and start a new life. But he must have been born under a bad sign because the very man he’s really running from is one of the first he runs into.
A new life in a new town seemed like the right decision for Soren Jorgenson, especially after a difficult case left him recovering from a gunshot wound and lonely as he’d ever been. Finding Dany living on Piedras brings back all the feelings he’d tried to lock away. He’s angry and bitter and Dany is not going to continue to get away with his old tricks. Too bad Dany is just as compelling as he ever was.
The two men find themselves on opposite sides of Soren’s first case on Piedras, but neither is able to deny the attraction between them. They keep finding themselves in compromising situations; if they’re found out there will be Real Trouble.
Real Trouble is set in the Veiled Intentions world, while familiar characters appear Real Trouble can be read as a standalone. Real Trouble is a dual POV following Soren Jorgenson and Danylo Peters as they fight their way to their HEA and is the first in the new West Coast Forensics series. These characters originally appeared in the Shielded Hearts series (formally Accidental Roots).
“I’m sorry. Let’s talk about something else. What’s your favorite?” He traced his index finger down Dany’s hoodie-covered back. He was taut, filled with potential energy. Soren wanted to harness that energy in a way that would benefit both of them. Maybe sex was the best way they had of talking right now. The words would come later. He prayed the pizza didn’t arrive earlier than expected.
Dany scowled at him over his shoulder. “My favorite what?”
“Your favorite Disney movie? Your favorite color? Your favorite food?”
“Do I have to answer all of those?”
Soren suppressed a grin. “No, don’t answer any of them if you don’t want to.” He traced another line down Dany’s back. Dany shivered and rolled his shoulders, and they settled a little lower.
“I guess I liked Lion King.”
“Oh yeah? What’s that about?”
Soren did kind of know Lion King, but he wanted to hear what Dany would say about it.
“Jealous uncle wants to be king, kills his brother, takes the throne. You know, Mafia family drama, only with lions.”
“So you’re saying it hits a bit close to home?”
“Asshole.” Dany lifted one shoulder. “Maybe.”
