Vale Valley Season Five, Book 14

When your love is secret and you can’t see a way forward, magic will provide a bridge.

Colt, a shy Clydesdale shifter, loves his friend and fellow firefighter, Eddie, more than words can say. Only one problem, Eddie has no clue. Colt can’t see how Eddie would every love him back and his emotions threaten to tear him apart. Leaving his beloved horse and their magical hometown of Vale Valley behind might be the only answer to saving his heart.

A carefree and high-spirited Arabian, Eddie loves his life fighting fires alongside his best friends. He and Colt have been tight since they were kids, but any thought of more has never popped into Eddie’s mind. But when his closest friends start meeting their fated mates, he begins to yearn for something more. Could the answer to his desires have been right by his side the whole time?

Magic shakes the foundations of the two horses’ lives when their fated mate emerges from the flames of a raging barn fire.

Val is a latent horse shifter on the run from dangerous and dark magical forces bent on his capture and destruction. But with his newly discovered mates by his side, maybe, just maybe, Val’s chaotic life will finally bloom into the happily ever after he has always craved.

Trio: Friend, Lover, Mate is book 14 of the fifth and final season of the Vale Valley magical universe. Expect plenty of horse pranks and hijinks, danger, dueling magical forces, and all the love and magic you’ve come to expect from Vale Valley.

Excerpt:

A door on the first floor slams, and I blink awake. Glancing over at my clock on my bedside table, I find it is six-thirty a.m., half an hour before my alarm was set to go off.  Groaning, I throw an arm over my face and try to grasp the warm fog of sleep that still clings to the corners of my mind.  As I drift off again, my door slams open, and a familiar voice calls out.

“Colt!  You lazy giant!  Get up. Santa Claus is here.”

Before I can respond, the covers are ripped off my bed, and the brat grabs my free hand, trying to pull me up.  I resist, mostly by just not moving.  Since I outweigh him by a good fifty pounds, I know he won’t be able to budge me from my bed without a lot more effort than he is currently exerting.  Without moving my arm off my face, I laugh at him.

My arm is snatched away from my face as Eddie tries again to yank me upright.  A smirk forms on my lips as I purposely lie as still as possible.

“Damn it, Colt.  You’re a brick house, not a horse!  Get up!”  He throws my arm down into my face as I laugh.

“Hurry up.  We have to get breakfast going before all of the kids wake up. You know Elouise’s rule.  If we don’t hurry up, we will be late for brunch at Tuck and Darren’s place.”

Sighing, I scrub my hand over my face, feeling the stubble on my chin.  “Why did you have to wake me up?  Can’t someone else help you?”

Eddie plops down on the end of my bed and throws me one of his dazzling smiles.  His outfit finally registers.  The crazy racehorse is decked out in a full Santa costume, complete with a ridiculous fake beard that he has pulled down below his chin.  A laugh escapes me before I can help it.

            “What are you wearing?”

About Anne Barwell

Anne Barwell lives in Wellington, New Zealand. She shares her home with a cat with “tortitude” who is convinced that the house is run to suit her; this is an ongoing “discussion,” and to date, it appears as though Kaylee may be winning. In 2008, Anne completed her conjoint BA in English Literature and Music/Bachelor of Teaching. She has worked as a music teacher, a primary school teacher, and now works in a library. She is a member of the Upper Hutt Science Fiction Club and plays violin for Hutt Valley Orchestra. She is an avid reader across a wide range of genres and a watcher of far too many TV series and movies, although it can be argued that there is no such thing as “too many.” These, of course, are best enjoyed with a decent cup of tea and further the continuing argument that the concept of “spare time” is really just a myth. She also hosts and reviews for other authors, and writes monthly blog posts for Love Bytes. She is the co-founder of the New Zealand Rainbow Romance writers, and a member of RWNZ. Anne’s books have received honorable mentions five times, reached the finals four times—one of which was for best gay book—and been a runner up in the Rainbow Awards. She has also been nominated twice in the Goodreads M/M Romance Reader’s Choice Awards—once for Best Fantasy and once for Best Historical. Anne can be found at https://annebarwell.wordpress.com
