This week’s #teasertuesday is from Slow Dreaming.
The edges of the photo were bent and curled, as though it had been taken a while ago. He’d seen Lisa snap a photo the day before, but this couldn’t be it. She would have told him if she’d had it printed, and not only that, but the paper looked too worn to be that recent, and the colour of the print had faded with age.
“I can explain.” Jason glanced furtively around the café and swallowed.
Sean pushed his coffee away. A slow sinking feeling filled his stomach. Bile rose in his throat. “We didn’t meet by accident,” he said slowly, connecting dots that made him feel sick. “How long have you been stalking me?”
“I wasn’t—” Jason put his hand out for the wallet.
“Bullshit.” Sean tried to keep his voice even, and failed. He’d trusted Jason, and shared his hopes and dreams with him. He’d thought they had a connection. Damn it! He’d hoped they might have a future together. “You’ve got my photo in your wallet, and it’s been there a while. You’ve been sitting in this café watching me for at least a couple of days before you had the nerve to introduce yourself.” Sean fought the temptation to go through the rest of Jason’s wallet and gave it back to him. Jason might be fine with invading a stranger’s privacy but he wasn’t. “I think you’d better leave, don’t you?”
“I can explain,” Jason said quietly.
“Give me one good reason why I should let you.”
