A big welcome today to Jamie Deacon as part of his anniversary blog tour with LoveBound Promotions for Caught Inside
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your writing?
Thanks so much, Anne, for inviting me here today! I’m an incurable book junkie who prefers the company of a select few to large gatherings. I’m also a huge dog lover, drink way too much tea, and am somewhat of a geek when it comes to playing interactive roleplaying games. As far as my writing goes, I have a passion for weaving gritty romantic stories about young men on the brink of adulthood.
What inspired you to write ‘Caught Inside’?
The moment I picked up ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ by J.H. Trumble, I fell in love not only with this captivating novel, but with the genre of m/m romance in general. Those few short chapters where Nate and Adam explore their attraction to each other in secret caught my imagination, and Luke, Theo, and the whole tangled mess of their relationship was born.
How did you come up with the title?
I stumbled across it while browsing a glossary of surfing terms. Luke, my hero, is a surfing fanatic, so I thought I’d better actually learn something about it. The term “caught inside” just leapt off the screen, and I knew at once that I’d found the perfect title for this novel.
Who is your favourite character you’ve written?
I love all my characters, but I’m particularly enjoying writing Taylor, one of the heroes in my current WIP. He’s so fierce and angry at the world, but underneath all that, he has a wicked sense of humour and a kind heart.
Are there any genres you prefer reading? Who are some of your favourite authors?
Young and new adult are my favourites, although I’ll read any sub-genre—contemporary, historical, dystopian, LGBTQ… There’s something about YA and NA fiction, the rawness of the emotion, how the characters are just discovering themselves and what they want in life, that really appeals to me. Some of my favourite authors are Benjamin Alire Saenz, Rainbow Rowell, J.H. Trumble, John Green, and Meredith Russo.
If you could have any superpower or magical ability, what would it be and why?
I’d love the power to become invisible. The idea of being a fly on the wall, eavesdropping on people’s private conversations, really appeals to me. All that material for stories!
If you had access to a time machine just once, is there anything you’d go back and change?
When I was in my early teens, I was madly in love with a boy at school, but being the shy, awkward type, I didn’t think he’d look twice at me. If I could go back in time, I’d tell my younger self that, twenty years from then, me and that same boy would be soulmates and partners. Knowing that would have given my confidence a real boost!
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want there with you?
My iPad for an unlimited supply of books and games, a comfy bed, and a self-refilling flask of tea. What more could anyone want?
What are your writing and personal goals for 2017 and beyond?
Writing wise, I’m hoping to finish the first draft of my current WIP. My Chronic Fatigue Syndrome means that things always take longer than I would like. On the personal front, my boyfriend and I are in the process of buying are first place together, and I’m hoping we’ll me moved and settled in by the end of the year.
What are you working on at present?
I’m currently writing ‘Forbidden Steps’, the second novel in my Boys on the Brink series. This one deals with a fledgling step family and all the tensions and conflict that so often results when two families are dismantled, then pieced back together to form something entirely new. The fact that my heroes are stepbrothers who fall in love only adds to the drama!

About the Book
Luke believes he has his life figured out…and then he meets Theo.
It should have been simple—a summer spent with his girlfriend Zara at her family’s holiday cottage in Cornwall. Seventeen-year-old Luke Savage jumps at the chance, envisioning endless hours of sunbathing on the private beach and riding the waves on his beloved surfboard. He isn’t interested in love. Though his rugged good looks and lazy charm mean he can have his pick of girls, he has no intention of falling for anyone.
Nothing prepares Luke for his reaction to Theo, the sensitive Oxford undergraduate who is Zara’s cousin and closest friend. All at once, he is plunged along a path of desire and discovery that has him questioning everything he thought he knew about himself. No one, especially Zara, must find out; what he and Theo have is too new, too fragile. But as the deceit spirals beyond their control, people are bound to get hurt, Luke most of all.
Caught Inside was named a finalist in the 29th Annual Lambda Literary Awards for Best Gay Romance, the 5th Annual Bisexual Book Awards for Best Young Adult Novel, and the 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Awards for Best LGBT Fiction.
About Jamie Deacon
Jamie lives in a tranquil spot close to the River Thames in Berkshire, England, and has always been just a little out of place—the only redhead in a family of brunettes; an introvert far more at ease with dogs than with people; a connoisseur of simple pleasures in a society intent on the quest for wealth and fame. Despite an outward cynicism, Jamie is a romantic at heart, and, when not immersed in a book, can mostly be found writing emotional stories where young men from all walks of life are thrust headlong into the breathless, euphoric, often painful whirlwind called love.
